[object Object]We’re also excited to announce that former Tibetan political prisoner Ngawang Choephel’s groundbreaking documentary film TIBET IN SONG opens TOMORROW, Friday, Oct. 22nd in Toronto!

Show Dates: October 22-28

Location: Carlton Cinema @ 20 Carlton Street

Showtimes: 1:40pm, 3:30pm, 5:20pm, 7:15pm, 9:30pm

Ngawang Choephel will be present on opening night, Oct. 22nd at the 7:15pm show for a Q & A session.

Join SFT’s campaign to support Tibetan artists, musicians, writers and other cultural figures by watching and promoting this powerful film highlighting the destruction and resilience of Tibet’s folk music traditions under Chinese occupation.

Returning to Tibet in 1995 to document Tibet’s traditional folk music, filmmaker Ngawang Choephel was arrested and sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment on charges of “espionage”. In 2002, after a sustained campaign waged by Tibet support groups including Students for a Free Tibet, Ngawang was released. Undeterred by his imprisonment, Ngawang continued his research on Tibetan folk music and its battle for survival amidst China’s cultural imperialism.

The result of his work, TIBET IN SONG, is both a celebration of traditional Tibetan folk music and a harrowing journey into the past fifty years of cultural repression in Tibet. Weaving a mesmerizing story of beauty, pain, brutality and resilience, Ngawang introduces Tibet to the world in a way never before seen on film.

At a time when Tibetan musicians, artists, and writers are being routinely arrested, imprisoned, and tortured, TIBET IN SONG serves to amplify the voices of all Tibetans fighting for the very survival of their unique cultural heritage.
